I Have a Dream

We completed a unit on the great Martin Luther King, Jr. last week.  After reading and analyzing parts of his famous speech I challenged the students to think about our world and we could do to change or improve things.  We chatted about some ideas before I left them to their own devices to write their speeches.  Listed below are what I believe were the highlights and, of course, a few of my own thoughts... (I still don't change the spelling - even for the third graders.)

I have a dream that we can all stop smoking and do our work. (Stop the smoke-break madness!)

I have a dream that we will have a peaceful world and we will not be bossed by boiles. (Bullies, in case there was confusion.)

I have a dream that finuries will not make our univers dirty. (As one with a finury in my backyard I say AMEN, SISTA!)

I have a dream that black and white people will go to school together. (Not sure what he was doing during that part of the lesson.)

I have a dream that we can stop wars, don't keep atacking everyone, be nice - it kills people. (Your guess is as good as mine.)

I have a dream that there is no more picy people. (I guess we all have our pet peeves.)

I have a dream that everyone will understand that it doesn't matter which football team you like - that you won't pick sides. (Just imagine.)

I have a dream that people won't kill people if they don't like them and if people did'nt even do anything to them.  (Otherwise, have at it.)

And the most impactful thought on the matter...

I have a dream that I will have a bagillion legos under my pillow.  (No comment.)

Good stuff.

Slacker

It's true.  I'm a slacker.  My absence is certainly not due to a lack of humorous material to work with - more of a lack of....well, I've been lazy.  But I'm starting again!  This is my notice of posts to come.  I no longer teach first graders.  I teach third graders.  I still laugh every day.  And I still want to share it with you.  I will.  Wait for it...
